PM Modi Reaction to Vinesh Phogat Disqualification

Vinesh Phogat disqualification from Pari Olympics 2024 finals news got official a few minutes ago. Being overweight of 100gms made the athlete out from the upcoming rounds. To this heartbreaking news, the Indian Prime Minister took to his social media X account and added a heartfelt note to the young star.

PM adds, Vinesh, “You are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomize resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you”.

Words of distress over the ace wrestler’s disqualification just before the final round. Vinesh Phogat had been a strong medal contender, having fueled the country’s hopes for gold with her impressive performance in earlier matches.

According to sources, the Prime Minister has discussed the situation with PT Usha, the veteran athlete and president of the Indian Olympics Association (IOA). He has instructed Usha to explore all possible avenues and to file a strong protest regarding Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification.

With approximately 11 hours remaining before the bout, Indian authorities are exploring every possible option to address this unexpected setback.

Competing in the 50kg freestyle wrestling category, Vinesh Phogat had previously wrestled in the 53kg category but reduced her weight for the Paris Olympics. Although she passed the initial weight checks, she was found to be 100 grams over the limit during the second day of weigh-ins.

It is reported that Vinesh went to great lengths, including skipping meals and exercising intensely through the night, to meet the weight requirements. Despite requests for an extension from Indian officials, the Olympic committee did not grant additional time.
